Asking for a Sign
A week ago, Sunday, we were walking down the lane and a white dove landed at my feet. I said to my husband, “That’s a sign if I ever saw one.” It actually allowed me to get quite close. He followed us up the road to the barn and perched on the roof. I marveled at his presence. Then we ran into one of the farmhands who said it was a pigeon and he come every year to court the female that lives in the barn. Of course! He wasn’t there for me. How silly of me. It was just mother nature.
I dismissed the sign.
Part of my Present Time Practice is reading and writing. I am simultaneously reading Janet Conner’s books, The Lotus and the Lily and Writing Down Your Soul: How to Activate and Listen to the Extraordinary Voice Within. (These Present TIme Posts are a result of this reading). In one of the books, she wrote, “If you need a sign, ask for it.”
So I did. I asked for a sign on Thursday.
The Universe has a funny sense of humor. Saturday the white dove appeared again. He was waiting for me in the tree by the garage. I think I heard him say, “Hello silly one, it’s me again…your sign.” I acted all cool and said to my husband, “This time I’m definitely taking this bird as a sign.”
I googled white pigeons. Turns out doves are pigeons – same bird family. I googled bird symbols/white doves and got this: “A white dove in your path is not by coincidence. Your awareness of its presence, calmness and beauty is also a gift. You were meant to see this dove to remind you to focus on the peace you have in your heart and that is always present all around you, and in your life.”
And if that isn’t enough, yesterday I discovered that there’s a dove (brown) nesting right outside my kitchen window. I have a front row seat to the magic happening there. How’s that for a sign?

Hi Lesley,
That was definitely a sign! Just because the dove came a’courting doesn’t mean that it’s presence wasn’t also there for you.
You have inspired me to start exercising. If it takes 30 days to change a habit then I am taking on that challenge. And I will write about it to be accountable. You are terrific. And I Am going to check out Writing Down Your Soul sounds like a great book.
XOXO

I love this post! I bought the Lotus and Lily book for my Kindle, but I really need to read it from a book, so I am ordering it today. I am going to do the Mandala project. The Universe is amazing…I ask for signs too…and I get them! Another great read is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I think you would love it- with the journey you are undertaking right now.

I have tried Kindle, Kelly, but I’m a marker and I need to move back and forth to my marks, so it’s the “real” thing for me. I read The Alchemist a long, long time ago. I’ll check it out again.
I can’t wait to get to the Mandela part!

What a lovely pigeon/Dove. Funny how we feel about something changes when we change the words around it. What were you wanting a sign of?
Lesley says
Lisa – I wanted a sign that Spirit was with me, that the actions I am taking as not in vain. Thanks for reading.
